Curriculum

BJH teachers embed character education into classroom routines, expectations, and assignments. From “kindness experiments” in Science to learning about conflict resolution in Health, we strive to teach and practice our core values every day.

Advisory

The BJH counseling department designs lessons on core values and social-emotional wellness that all students learn from in Advisory. Student-led conferences present an additional opportunity for students to reflect on and grow from their past successes and mistakes.

Leadership

The BJH Character Committee is comprised of teachers, librarians, counselors, administrators, and parents. Anyone in the Bayless community who wishes to be involved is welcome! Together we plan and implement initiatives to ensure our school is living up to our Core Values. Student leaders also have a voice through Student Council, Broncho Buddies, and NJHS.

What is a National School of Character?

The goal of the National Schools of Character awards program is to recognize schools and districts that demonstrate an exemplary level of implementation of the Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education from character.org. These principles guide the process of creating a culture based on the community's shared values. This designation is renewable every five years, and becoming a Missouri School of Character is a prerequisite.
